Caring for Goolwa’s Most Vulnerable
At the Lions Club of Goolwa, we’re deeply concerned about the growing number of people experiencing homelessness in our community. Through our Sleeping Rough outreach, we provide support that goes beyond shelter—focusing on dignity, hygiene, and daily essentials that many take for granted.
One of the most vital parts of this initiative is the toiletry packs we assemble and distribute in partnership with the Goolwa Uniting Church’s Open Door program. Each pack contains practical items—soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, tissues, combs, brushes—and, when available, warm extras like a knitted beanie from one of our generous local crafters.
These packs do more than clean hands or freshen breath—they restore confidence, promote health, and remind people they’re not alone. They’re a small, personal way for Lions to offer care and connection to those doing it tough.
And the beauty of this project is how the wider community gets involved. Donations arrive regularly through our book shed: unused toiletries from hotel stays, gift packs that never got opened, items tucked away in cupboards that someone else could truly use. Every bottle, brush, and bar of soap helps build a bridge of kindness.
We encourage everyone to have a look around at home. If you’ve got extras you won’t use, consider passing them on. We’ll make sure they reach someone who genuinely needs them.
Swags or sleeping bags may also be available through our program, offering protection and warmth to those sleeping rough.
The Lions Club of Goolwa believes in showing up—with humility, with heart, and with practical help. Together, we’re building a community that sees, values, and cares for its most vulnerable members.
