Lions Assistance Dogs

The Lions Club of Goolwa Celebrating the Growth of Lions Assistance Dogs

As Lions, we’re deeply proud to share that the program many of us have supported and watched flourish over the decades—formerly known as Australian Lions Hearing Dogs—has entered a new and exciting chapter. As of July 1st, it will now be known as Lions Assistance Dogs.

This isn’t just a change in name; it’s a reflection of the incredible growth and evolution of the program itself. What began as a groundbreaking initiative to support Australians with hearing loss has now expanded to meet the needs of those living with a wide range of health conditions. Medical Assistance Dogs and Psychiatric Assistance Dogs have been added to the program, extending the reach and impact of what our Lions community helped build.

As a Club, we’ve always stood behind the power of service—and this change speaks directly to that commitment. We’ve seen firsthand how these dogs change lives. Whether it’s giving someone back their independence, helping to manage anxiety or trauma, or simply providing the daily reassurance of a trusted companion, these partnerships embody the values we live by as Lions: dignity, empathy, and hope.

The familiar logo remains, with the beloved raised-paw symbol continuing to represent readiness and loyalty. New colours and typeface lend a fresh look, but at heart, this is the same trusted organisation we know—just ready to serve in more ways.

To all the volunteers, trainers, donors, and recipients who make this possible, we say thank you. And to our fellow Lions, we invite you to continue walking alongside this initiative as it expands its horizons. Supporting Lions Assistance Dogs means investing in a future where more Australians get the support they need—not just to live, but to thrive.
