Our Club History
The Goolwa Lions Club was formed following a public meeting held in the Goolwa RSL clubrooms on May 24,1979. The new club was charted on September 1, 1979, in the Centenary Hall when twenty-two members of the new Goolwa Lions club sat down with over 160 guests to celebrate the presentation of its charter by D.G. Bob Korotkoff to Charter President Doug Braithwaite. The new club was sponsored by the Lions Club of the South Coast, now known as Lions Club of Victor Harbor and Port Elliot.
Major projects it has covered in the past were associated with the river and season festivals, save sight, public facility structures, and a 1988 Murray Darling Basin event involving over 30,000 children, plus ongoing projects like the local Community Newsletter and the popular Goolwa Lions bookshop as major fundraisers, along with other community services. The club is strong and noted for its friendly welcoming attitude with its numbers steadily climbing over the years to its present figures in the thirties.

Our 1.4 million men and women in 236 countries and geographic areas, conduct vision and health screenings, build parks, support eye hospitals, award scholarships, assist youth, provide help in time of disaster and much more.
Providing Disaster Relief
In times of disaster, Lions meet immediate needs such as food, water and shelter with funds from LCIF. For larger-scale disasters, the Foundation remains committed to helping communities rebuild into the future.
Meeting Humanitarian Needs
LCIF is a variety of international humanitarian efforts, such as supporting the construction of homes for the disabled, providing visions screenings to Special Olympics athletes, and combating measles.
